Ceci n'est pas une martini.

A French friend once told me a martini could only be called so if it consists of vodka or gin, and vermouth. Anything more than that, she said, is not a martini. As Margritte pointed out in the late 1920's, we would be lying if we called something that may not be, fact. This is a collection of my very own original creations.
Call them what you like.

Beef Jerky Martini

Vodka

Beef boullion cubes

Liquid smoke

Lea & Perrins® Worcestershire sauce

1 green onion

If you havent noticed already, always have chilled vodka, shaker and glass on-hand at all times.

Dissolve 3 boullion cubes in 1/4 of hot to boiling water. I use low sodium-but I doubt it makes much of a difference. Place, covered, in freezer until chilled.

Cut a 2-inch spear of green onion (from the bottom end up) in half. Place this in the bottom of the shaker and cover with the silky beef liquid. Measure in a tbsp of the Worcestershire sauce. Be very careul with the liquid smoke. Use half a tsp at most. Pour in the ice cold vodka and cubes.

Beef jerky has been eaten in space, endorsed as a diet food by Elizabeth Hurley, and was first documented thousands of years ago as a survival food. This is a survival drink for those longer-than-usual Mondays.
