THIS IS NOT A MARTINI.

Photobucket

A French friend once told me a martini could only be called so if it consists of vodka or gin, and vermouth. Anything more than that, she said, is not a martini. As Margritte pointed out in the late 1920's, we would be lying if we called something that may not be, fact. This is a collection of my very own original creations.
Call them what you like.

Roll With It

Vodka

Gekkein sake

Pickled ginger

Wasabi powder

Eden Shake seasoning medley

Chill shaker and wet ingredients overnight. Mix vodka, sake, 1 tbsp pickled ginger liquid, about 4 large pieces of the ginger, heaps of ice, and apply that elbow grease. Ensure you do not disturb the rim while you pour your martini.

To make the mixture for the rim, start by wetting the rim of your martini glass with your fingers. Mix 2 tsp of wasabi powder and 1/2 tbsp of the Eden Shake on a shallow plate. For a spicier kick, use 4 tbsp wasabi powder and about 2 tbsp of the Eden Shake. I drape a single peice of pickled ginger over the edge so half of it soaks up the pungent cocktail and half stays crispy and sour.

Eden Shake is an aromatic blend of black & white sesame seeds, pickled red shiso leaf and nori flakes.
