Ceci n'est pas une martini.

A French friend once told me a martini could only be called so if it consists of vodka or gin, and vermouth. Anything more than that, she said, is not a martini. As Margritte pointed out in the late 1920's, we would be lying if we called something that may not be, fact. This is a collection of my very own original creations.
Call them what you like.

Street Walker

Vodka

Tomato water (click here for recipe)

Caper juice

Black olive juice

Garlic stuffed olive juice

Combine vodka with 1/2 cup of the tomato water and 1 tbsp. each of the brines. All chilled, of course. Shake, pour, garnish with a caper and olives.

Inspiration comes from one of my favorite foods. Puttanesca, a tomato based sauce with capers and olives. Savory and salty. The name translates back to the wh-street walkers, we can call them, of Naples. The legendary “ladies of the night” would fix this easy meal after a hard days nights work. The Street Walker martini is a very appropriate interpretation.
