Ceci n'est pas une martini.

A French friend once told me a martini could only be called so if it consists of vodka or gin, and vermouth. Anything more than that, she said, is not a martini. As Margritte pointed out in the late 1920's, we would be lying if we called something that may not be, fact. This is a collection of my very own original creations.
Call them what you like.

French Onion Martini

Vodka

Cocktail onions

Beef bouillon cube

Steak seasoning

Worcestershire sauce

Gently grate half of the beef bouillon cube with the micro-plane over a small vessel. Mix finely ground steak seasoning and bouillon onto a shallow plate. Wet the rim of your glass with your fingers. Very carefully coat the glass by dabbing it in the rimming mixture. Pace your glass back in the freezer to chill. Skewer 3 of the cocktail onions on a skewer for garnish. Set aside.

To make the martini mixture: measure about 2 tbsp. of the onion liquid in the shaker with the vodka and 4 dashes of Worcestershire sauce. Shake and pour into your glass, being careful not to disturb the rim.
